My name is Lucy Brient, and I’m the sole owner and operator of a small, specialized landscape gardening business based on the Mendocino Coast. While I officially started my business four years ago, my roots in gardening run much deeper. I was raised in Tennessee by avid gardener parents, and caring for our landscapes has been a lifelong practice for me. Growing up, we moved often, but my mother always brought her beloved plants with us—roses from my grandparents’ garden, native perennials, and cherished transplants that grounded each new home. Nurseries and gardening were a constant part of my parents lives.
Gardening became even more meaningful to me during the six years my mother bravely battled terminal cancer. In that time, I became the caretaker of her garden—and, in many ways, of her spirit. After she went to Heaven, I started this business in her honor. Though I can no longer ask her questions or share ideas, I continue to find inspiration in her love of plants, animals, and the quiet beauty of nature. Her kindness, patience, and belief in creating more with less are values that continue to guide me.
My approach to landscape gardening is deeply personal, grounded in respect for both the land and the people who live with it. I focus on pruning, plant health, and thoughtful garden cleanups using high-quality Japanese hand tools, larger digging tools, and quiet, battery-powered equipment. I take pride in maintaining clean, precise tools and practicing sustainable methods that protect the soil, encourage native plants, and support local ecosystems.
I am certified as a California Native Plant Landscaper and have made it a priority to incorporate native species into my work. I believe in creating gardens that offer comfort, joy, and a sense of peace—spaces that welcome both people and wildlife. It brings me genuine happiness to help others reconnect with their outdoor spaces and to carry forward a legacy of love, care, and reverence for the natural world.
